OutyPlay

An app for finding things to do outdoors near you. It's closed now, and this page says what became of it.

What it was

An app for organising matches. You picked the place, set the rules and invited friends or anyone in the community. Or you organised nothing and joined a game already happening near you.

The part that actually mattered was the venues: the app suggested nearby places for your sport and offered them again while you were creating the match, so you never had to go looking separately.

And it had a chat, because most games do not fall apart for lack of players. They fall apart because nobody knows who is still coming.

It was called OutyPlay — Live the Sport, and the line under the name read Find and Organise Matches.

How it went

It is the best-loved of my apps: 4.9 on the App Store and 4.9 on Google Play. Across seventy-five ratings in total, which is the whole story in two numbers.

The last update is from October 2024. Over the past year iPhone downloads fell 78%: it is the app that dropped fastest of all of them.

Why it closed

Same reason as Noon Happen: I wasn't developing it any more. Keeping sign-ups open on a service you no longer update is a promise you cannot keep.

From September 2026 you can no longer create an account or sign in to an existing one.

What happens to the data

If you had an account, the data will be permanently deleted by 31 December 2026.

Until then you can ask for a copy or for immediate deletion. The request goes to the address given in the privacy policy, which is linked from the app listing on the store.

They are still on the stores

The apps can still be downloaded, but they no longer work: sign-up and sign-in are closed. The links are here because the listing still exists, with the screenshots and reviews from when it was alive.

Do you need an app like this?

People who land on this page were often looking for exactly this kind of app, and did not find it. Building these is what I do: apps, websites, automations.
